I am counting down 50 PROVEN STRATEGIES FOR JOB SEEKERS to get noticed and hired rapidly.
#43 When you find job postings that match your skills, you should apply immediately!
Job hunting can be a full-time job in itself and sometimes it seems like no matter how many applications you submit, you just can't seem to get your foot in the door.
But don't despair!
The key to landing your dream job may be as simple as timing your application correctly.
The moment you see a job listing that interests you, your first instinct may be to wait and see if anyone else applies. After all, there's no rush, right? Wrong. The sooner you submit your application, the better your chances of being invited to interview. It has been shown that the more time passes between when you apply for a position and when the application is accepted, the smaller your chances of getting employed become.
The job market is competitive, and it's not uncommon for employers to receive hundreds of applications for a single job posting and they will often choose to interview the first few candidates who apply.
When employers are reviewing applications, they often give preference to those that arrive first. So if you wait too long, your application may get lost in the shuffle. By submitting your application early, you increase the chances of your resume being seen by a human reviewer.
If you’re applying for a job that’s in high demand, it’s even more important to submit your application early. This is because there will likely be a large number of qualified candidates competing for the same position. Therefore, submitting your application early can give you a competitive edge.
After that, each day that passes lowers your chances of being hired, with potential employees who apply a week after the posting goes live being 60% less likely to get accepted than those who applied within 24 hours.
A study by researchers at the University of British Columbia found that the best time to submit a job application is right when the listing goes up. In fact, applicants who submitted their resumes within the first hour after a job was posted were 60% more likely to receive an interview than those who applied later on.
The study's authors attribute this to the "filling the vacancy" effect, which is when employers are more likely to interview and hire candidates early on in the application process in order to fill a position as quickly as possible.
Also, the study found that Monday is the best day to apply for a job, and Wednesday is the worst. So if you're going to submit your application on a weekday, make sure it's earlier in the week for the best chance of being seen.
Here are three reasons why you should always submit your job application as soon as possible:
1. Employers are more likely to review applications that are submitted early.
2. If you wait too long, someone else may snag the position you're interested in.
3. Applying early shows employers that you're eager and motivated to get the job.
So next time you see a job listing that you're interested in, make sure to submit your application right away! By following these simple tips, you'll increase your chances of landing an interview and getting the job you want.
Don't let your dream job slip through your fingers - submit your application as soon as possible!
